Anniversary Parties — Themes & Ideas

Silver and gold wedding anniversaries are some of the happiest times in your life. You are celebrating a love that has lasted throughout your lifetime. Your children are likely grown, or nearly so, and are old enough now that they can share the celebration with you. You've made wonderful friends who are able to be there to share your fun and yet you're all still young enough to enjoy your good times. It's only natural that you want to celebrate your festivities with the traditional colors of the celebration. Silver or gold are going to be your highlights of course, but what else? What other parts of your past–and your future–can you incorporate into the parties?

Your silver anniversary should be fun. Elegant and fun can certainly go hand in hand. Not quite ready for the dignity and the staid lifestyle, you want to add some real interest and amusement to your silver anniversary.  One sure way to make the party a hit is to invite or to hire a caricature artist. They are generally listed online and inviting one to your party is an amazing way to get people laughing together.  Add some personal touches to the party. 25 years of photographs in silver-look frames set in groupings around the room. If you've spent many years with some of your friends and neighbors, incorporate some older photos of them as well. They will quite likely get real enjoyment out of seeing what they did look like.  Fill a table with mementos that offer a look back through the life of the married couple. If possible, invite the people who stood up for them at their wedding. The enjoyment, the looking back over the time you've all spent together is a great deal of the fun.  There are some lovely silver and gold anniversary candies out there which feature personalized candy wrappers, or even your picture or names in miniature in tiny items such as mini candy bars or small parcels of MM's candies. These will offer a tasty reminder of a lovely party.

A golden anniversary party will likely offer elegance yet still that touch of fun for those who attend. Offer your guests a white wine punch long with a non-alcoholic one, perhaps in a crystal bowl.  Don't be afraid to break out the white linen, which sets off the golden highlights that you're going to be using in striking detail.  Many couples, or families of the couple, seek out a replica of their wedding cake for the party, which is a big hit with partygoers. The watchword for a fiftieth anniversary party is elegant.  One fiftieth anniversary party that we saw set out the wedding clothing of the bride as a corner centerpiece, and the bride was thrilled to see it out again.  A fiftieth anniversary deserves something special. Golden frames will be in keeping with the golden theme, while the entry or cake table will house images of the couple and family, as well as friends, through the years.  Prior to the party, ask your guests to bring with them any favorite memories that they have of the people they've come to honor. Many will have romantic memories, some will offer laughter, and some will bring along a memory of a kindness that they received.

These types of celebrations, remembrances of many years of laughter, fun, and working together, deserve all the special attention to detail that we can give them. Whatever means the most to your favorite anniversary couple, incorporate it into the celebration. They will be thrilled with the party and grateful for all that you've done to make their special day sparkle.
